FR-213: Appleman-style Bikepacking
-
Ahoy Matey! Appleman's got an over the top adventure bike to take you places you've never been.
Tour Divide? BC Epic 1000? ...this bike was designed to conquer mega-rides.
Nobody wants to get stuck in the middle-of-nowhere and nobody wants to ride slow, that's why this bike is designed from the ground up for maximum durablity and to outlast you on the trail.
What's with the name?
-
Short for "Fire Road 213". One fall, I was unable to finish a cyclocross race because of a mud-packed drivetrain. Unable to let go of the equipment let-down, I had a vision, a revelation, a true lightbulb-above-the-head while riding on FR-213 that I could build better bike, a more robust bike, something that is more bombproof than ever before.
Located in the national forest of northern Wisconsin, FR-213 is a real gem
Clearances and Components
-
The FR-213 is a carefully choreographed arrangement between frame and components. Built around a Rohloff Speedhub, the most durable drivetrain component ever produced. The internal gears keep much of the drivetrain clean and an outboard chainline allows for the option to run fat tires while still having a huge gear range.
Remember folks, these are custom bikes your bike can have it's own mix of special parts
WIDE tires, NARROW cranks
-
Step off that horse partner onto some normal q-factor cranks. With a carefully scultped chain stay, the FR-213 fits up to 95mm tires with a standard 168Q mountain bike crank! This is more comfortable, more common, and provides better ergonomics for long days in the saddle.
650B x 75mm (27.5 x 3") tire shown
Terrifically Toughened Tubing
-
I know a lot of people are saying, "carbon bikes break all the time". Appleman's are designed to be tougher than most bikes, in fact, the FR-213 has a specially designed tubeset for a 400% increase in impact resistance when compared to our already high impact resistance "standard" frames.
